No More Canned Cranberry Sauce! Here is the Better Option

Thanksgiving is upon us already! How is that possible. I swear after Halloween the rest of the year just flies by! I personally love the prep leading up to Thanksgiving. All of the baking, packing for a trip to see family. Kids out of school and MOSTLY enjoying the time with siblings. ;) I know that it can be a stressful time for many, but I just love getting together with family!

Homemade cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving.

If you aren't one that loves to cook and prep but want to add something homemade, delicious, and super simple this is the recipe for you! I always thought that I didn't like cranberry sauce. The Nasty burgundy goo that came out in the shape of the can that held it. No thank you!

This recipe for cranberry sauce is fast and easy, not to mention delicious. If you take the 15 minutes to prepare this cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving this year your family will thank you for it!

Gather together:

a large bag of cranberries (about 24 oz)

2/3 c brown sugar

2/3 c sugar

1 c water

1 c orange juice

orange zest

Combine water, orange juice, and sugars in a medium sauce pan and bring to a simmer. Stir to dissolve the sugar. Add in cranberries and orange zest and simmer over low to medium low. The berries will start to burst and the sauce will start to thicken.

Berries and bursting and sauce is starting to thicken up!

Simmer and stir until the consistency is just a little more runny than you would like it. Usually between 5 and 10 minutes.

It will thicken slightly as it cools. It turns a beautiful shade or red and smells so good!!! Transfer to an air tight jar and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. You can keep this in the fridge for up to one week, so it is an easy one to knock out beforehand.
